UNIBEN/UBTH BSF ALUMNI ASSOCIATION (BSFAA)

At exactly 20 years after the inauguration of UNIBEN BSF, the alumni arm of the Fellowship was initiated by Bro. Friday Ojiebun in his final year in 1992. He convened a meeting of the Final Year Brethren (FYB) in his room (Hall 3, D208 christened Jesus Embassy) on November 2, 1992 with six persons attending: Bro. Prince Nyekwere, Bro. AkpowhoOkechukwu, Bro. Victor Kute, Bro. AyoolaAderemi, Bro. Daniel Akinsanya and himself (Bro. Friday Ojiebun). He shared his burden and vision of forming the Alumni Association with the brethren and the need to be of help to the BSF when God blesses them wherever they go. Since they were all graduating, six zones were created across the country with some well-known alumni members in the respective areas appointed as Coordinators as follows: Benin City – Bro. Matthew Akene (Faculty of Law, UNIBEN); Rivers State – Bro. Isaiah Okanlawo; Lagos State – Bro. Egra. G. Akpofure; Oyo State – Bro. Joel Ojekunle; Abia State – Bro. Augustine Ngozi Okoronkwo and Ogun State – Sis. Bola Adeniyi. The Final Year Brethren (FYB) Fellowship has come to stay ever since.

History

When Bro. Friday Ojiebun came back to UNIBEN the following session for his Masters, he convened two other meetings of the Final Year and Post graduate brethren at UNIBEN Hall 2 Common Room on March 26 and 27, 1994 respectively. Those that attended the two meetings were Bro. Clement Eruke, Bro. Edgar Gaventa, Bro. Isaac Towelroro, Bro. Stevenson Isuekevbo, Bro. Matthew Oyedokun and Sis. RoliMene. Others were Bro. John Okosun, Bro. Solomon Ogaga, Bro. Philips Rotimi Dalopo, Bro. Friday lyekekpolor, Bro. Paul Ewah, Sis. Edith Akue and himself (Bro. Friday Ojiebun). Bro. Friday Ojiebun and Bro. Clement Eruke were elected as President and Secretary respectively. They strategized and created more zones across the country, sent out letters containing the details of their meetings and fixed the first Re-union Fellowship on February 11, 1995 (i.e. the 2nd Sat. of every February). The FYB/post graduate Fellowship presented gifts to the BSF for the first time that year. This tradition has come to stay in UNIBEN BSF and other campus Fellowships. The Re-union fellowship could not hold as scheduled due to logistic reasons and the University calendar.

The UNIBEN/UBTH BSFAA/Re-Union Fellowship was finally and formally inaugurated on May 20, 1995 by Rev. A. O. Osaghae (the then Edo Baptist Conference Secretary) at Banquet hall, UNIBEN. Dignitaries at the occasion were the national BSFAA executives (Dr. T. A. Alabi – National President, Mr B. Adekunle – National Secretary and Prof. M. A. Ojo – National PRO); the then BSF Zonal Co-ordinator (Rev. Jefferey Salako) and Prof. Akin Odebunmi (UNIBEN BSF Patron).
